~ HOW TO USE THE ONLINE CATALOG &
ACCESS YOUR LIBRARY ACCOUNT ~

ENCORE is the Windsor Locks Public Library's online catalog. From ENCORE you can search for materials, place holds, check your due dates, and renew your materials. Since ENCORE defaults to searching through the collections of ALL of the 33 libraries in our consortium, you will need to use Advanced Search if you are looking for a copy specifically at the Windsor Locks Public Library.

The East Hartford Public Library has created a You Tube demonstration of how ENCORE works!

HOW TO SEARCH FOR WINDSOR LOCKS MATERIALS IN ENCORE

By default ENCORE searches ALL Library Connection libraries, but sometimes you just want to find out if Windsor Locks owns an item.

(1) Open ENCORE.

(2) Directly under the SEARCH TOOLS on the right side of the page, click on the "Advanced Search" link. This screen will open:

(3) Use the "Advanced Search" form to construct your query. The defaults in the top section are KEYWORD and the bottom sections default to ALL, but you can change them to suit your searching needs by using the drop down menues. In the example below, the search is by TITLE and AUTHOR and the Format is BOOK. To limit your search to materials available at Windsor Locks Public Library, choose WINDSOR LOCKS PUBLIC LIBRARY as your COLLECTION.

(4) After searching for The Vanishing by Wendy Webb in book format in the Windsor Locks collection, the following results appear. Since Encore searches the entire record, you may get some results that you weren't looking for! However, every result listed will be owned by Windsor Locks. Additional owning libraries will be listed as well.

(5) Click on the title that looks like the one you want and the item record will appear. This page will include a list of all owning libraries in our system and will indicate the status of the item. CHECK SHELF means that the item is not checked out or on the HOLD shelf.

If you are logged in to your account you can place a hold by clicking on the REQUEST IT button at the right side of the page. A copy may be sent from another library, since Encore will send out the next copy checked in, so if you plan to stop down and pick up an item that is listed as "Check Shelf," you might prefer to call us at 860-627-1495 and ask us to set aside the item for you.

HOW TO SAVE YOUR READING HISTORY:

You can use a new featured called “READING HISTORY” in Encore by clicking on the READING HISTORY link on your MY ACCOUNT page and "“opting in" to the system via the button that appears. Once you have opted in a button will then appear on your screen saying “opt out.” This button allows you to opt out of saving your reading history at any time.

Opting into your reading history allows you to save and view anything that you have checked out from the time you opted into the system. It is not retroactive, so only items checked out after you OPT IN will be saved. Using your READING HISTORY you can opt in or out at anytime, delete part or all of your reading history, see the title, author, and check-out date, export your history to a local file or send to your email account.
