Using our online Connect Catalog
from home is a great way to locate materials quickly, renew items, place and cancel holds, and check your due dates. Using the catalog
is easy! Here is a brief overview of some of its main features:
LIBRARY INFO: Located on the right side of the screen, this box includes information on the library's hours, a link
to our home page, and list of all new adult fiction and DVDs added to our collection during the current month.
LINKS:
LIBRARY CATALOG: Located just under the blue area at the top of the screen, this link allows users to search the entire Windsor Locks Public Library
catalog. Use this link to return to our default page after checking your account or searching for specific formats.
AUDIO SEARCH: Search exclusively for audio formats, including books on CD, books on cassette, palyaways, and music CDs.
DVD/VIDEO SEARCH: This link allows movie lovers to search only through our collection of DVDs and videos.
DOWNLOADABLE AUDIO BOOK COLLECTION: This collection is available only to Windsor Locks card holders or to members
of other libraries that subscribe to the service through Library Connection. Audio titles can be downloaded to your home computer and
transferred to an MP3 player or, in many cases, burnt to CDs. Many titles can now also be transferred to an iPod. Loan period (the amount of time that the file remains on your PC)
is 2 weeks.
CHILDREN'S COLLECTION: This link allows younger borrowers and their parents to seach children's books by general category or alphabetically.
The links are easy to click pictures and letters of the alpabet.
ONLINE RESOURCES: Links to catalogs of other CT libraries and ICONN databases.
MY ACCOUNT: Clicking on "My Account" allows you to check your materials and due dates, renew items, or change your PIN. Your library
card number is needed to access your library account. If you have changed your PIN or aren't sure what to use, call us at 627-1495, provide us with your
library card number, and will be happy to check your PIN for you.
HELP: This versatile link, located on the left of the screen in the bright green bar, is a great resource. Help topics vary according to the screen you are
currently using in the Connect Catalog. For example, if you are logged into MY ACCOUNT the help topics listed will relate to that area, or if you are on the search
screen you will be able to access information about searching the Connect Catalog. Check out HELP for more information
SEARCHING TIPS
When you conduct a Keyword Search using Windsor Locks Public Library as your search library, only materials owned by our library will
display a green FIND IT button. To find the call numbers and locations of an item, click on FIND IT for the edition that interests you and
then click on the ITEM INFORMATION tab. If the item is eligible for holds there will be a yellow PLACE HOLD button on the left side of the page. To place a
hold click this button and then enter your library card number and PIN.
To search multiple libraries, change the "library" from Windsor Locks to "All libraries" in the drop-down list. Continue with Keyword Search rather
than choosing the Browse All Libraries option unless you have a specific title or author. A "words or phrase" search will not work correctly if the
"Browse all libraries" button is clicked. When searching multiple libraries all of the owning libraries for a particular edition will be displayed along with
associated call numbers. Holds may be placed on a BOOK from any library for pick-up at Windsor Locks or another library specified by you.
Please check with library staff if you have questions about using our online catalog.
