FROM BRIDGET JONES TO THE SHOPAHOLIC,
OUR COLLECTION OF
BRITISH AND AMERICAN CHICK LIT (& HEN LIT) IS ALWAYS FUN TO READ!
(From Wikipedia.org) "The genre tends to feature lonely young women in urban
settings, often working in the publishing industry; it may also be considered a subdivision of
the romance genre. The favored style is hip, stylish, bold, self-analytical, and slightly
irreverent. Sexuality may be a primary or secondary theme but is always present, and often is
presented as adventuresome..."
(From ChickLitBooks.com) Hen lit books feature women who are a little (and sometimes a lot)
older than the average chick lit heroine. The age range is anywhere from late 30’s to mid 60’s. Generally, you will find the main characters
dealing with normal situations, such as jobs, love the second time around, family situations, and more. These books are getting so p
opular that they will likely spin off into their own full genre one day.
For a more in-depth look at chick-lit titles we recommend Candy Covered Books, a great site where you can even search chick-lit by subgenre (mystery, inspirational, hen lit, motherhood, etc.).
