~ RESERVING MATERIALS ~
~ PLACING A HOLD ~
Our patrons now have several options for reserving books and other materials here at
the Windsor Locks Public Library:
(1) Visit us or call the library at 627-1495. If we own the book and it is checked out we will be
happy to place a hold for you and call you when your name comes up in the hold queue. If the
book that you seek is currently on the shelf in the library we can set it
aside for you to pick-up later in the day or sometime during the next day that we are open.
(2) Holds may also be placed on our materials through our
online catalog. Look up your item, click the "DETAILS" button, and then click on
"PLACE HOLD" (at the left) and follow the instructions given. When an item is NOT holdable (for example,
DVDs and museum passes), no "PLACE HOLD" option is shown for the item. Don't forget that you need your
library card to place a hold online! Computer-generated "HOLDS" lists are only run twice a day,
so an item may not be available at the circ desk for you immediately after the hold has been placed (but we can retrieve it
from the shelf for you when you arrive!).
~ ORDERING AN INTER-LIBRARY LOAN ~
If we do not own the book or other needed item, but it can be located in
another library in Connecticut, we can request that the book be sent to the Windsor Locks
Library for you via interlibrary loan. Depending on the availabilty of the item, you
may receive it in a few days or in a few weeks. We will call or email you (whichever you
prefer) when it arrives at the Windsor Locks Library. If the item that you are seeking is
from a nearby library and you need it immediately, you may prefer to go to that library and
use your Windsor Locks Library card to check it out. Your Windsor Locks Library card may be
used at any library in the state of Connecticut. NOTE: Since we do not loan DVDs via interlibrary loan we will not
request them from other libraries.
As of July 1, 2008 interlibrary loans for print materials may be requested from many CONNECT libraries directly through iBistro, our online
catalog, by following the directions in PLACING A HOLD (2) above. All materials requested through our catalog must be picked up at the
Windsor Locks Public Library. If you wish to pick up an item at another library you must access iBistro through that library's home page
to place your hold. Please keep in mind that many items are NOT available for interlibrary loan and that some libraries do not allow
patron-placed interlibrary loans.
~ USING THE ONLINE RESERVE FORM TO REQUEST MATERIALS ~
An interlibrary loan my be requested in person or by phone, or by an
ONLINE RESERVE REQUEST. To ensure
that the correct book is reserved for you, please review the following before
you submit a request:
1. Check our
ONLINE CATALOG to locate the
book and to determine whether it is currently available or checked out. Note the TITLE, AUTHOR, and CALL #.
If the book is currently on our shelf you may prefer to call and ask us to hold it for you.
Due to time contraints we cannot guarantee that the book will still be on the shelf when we process your
request.
2. If we do not own the book but another library does, we may be able to obtain the book for you via
interlibrary loan (ILL). Library staff will check
the holding libraries for your book or movie and determine if it is available.
3. You may also use the ONLINE RESERVE FORM if you are requesting a video, CD, CD-ROM, or audio
book that is not owned by the Windsor Locks Library. However, some libraries do not send
these materials via ILL, so they may not be available to us even though they are listed in the other library's online catalog.
If the item that you are seeking is needed immediately please call us or visit the library to request it.
4. Be sure that you have a current Connecticut library card. Materials cannot be
checked out if your card is expired, blocked, or from another state.
5. All materials reserved MUST be picked up at the Windsor Locks Public Library.
If you wish to have books sent to another library from Windsor Locks you must contact
that library and have them send us an ILL REQUEST. Individual patrons cannot
request materials directly via ILL.
Access our ONLINE RESERVE REQUEST FORM here.
