The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle (Avi)
This book is for adventurous readers. The main character Charlotte is
around the age of 14 and the story is from her point of view.
Charlotte talks about her voyage on the boat the Seahawk and how she
survived among a murderous crew and an ignorant captain. She was the
only passenger on the boat and the only available witness. Overall,
The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle kept me interested
because of its realism. (Lauren L.)
Riverboy

During summer vacation 13 year old Mary lou realizes that keeping a
personal journal and remaining true to herself can both be lots of
fun.
Bud, Not Buddy
(Cristopher Paul Curtis)
I think Bud no Buddy was a great book. It was very suspenseful and
exciting. My favorite part of the book was when Bud found out that
Herman E. Callaway was his grandfather and that Bud slept in his
mom's bed that she slept in when she was a little girl. My least
favorite part was when the little Amos boy beat up Bud. I recommend
this nook to anyone who likes fiction books that are exciting and
that can be sad sometimes. To read the whole story go to a library
in school or at a local library.
The Twisted Window
(Lois Duncan)
The Twisted Window is written by Lois Duncan and is a very good book.
It is about a girl named Tracy who meets a new guy in town and he is
very interested in her. But after she gets to know him better and
better she finds out the madness hidden behind him.
The Rookie Arrives
(Thomas Dygard)
When the Kansas City Royals draft Ted Bell right out of high school,
he expects to be playing instead of sitting on the bench. Then when
the starting third baseman gets injured Ted gets his chance. When the
third baseman is ready to play, Ted wonders if he played well enough
to keep the starting job.
The True Meaning of Cleavage (Mariah Fredericks)
Book type: Fiction
Book grade: 8-12+
Book Evaluation (1-10):9
The book that I am reading is about two girls. They are best friends who are going in their
first year of high school. Jess is not into partying or boys, yet.
But Sari is just the opposite; she will party just to be recognized, just to be popular. The
two girls had Halloween night all planned out (they thought that they were too
old to go trick-or-treating). They were going to go to Jess's house and watch scary movies
all night. But instead, a Halloween party for school came up and Sari decided to
ditch the plans with Jess and show up at this Halloween party (JUST FOR ATTENTION).
Well while Sari was at this party, Jess was at home watching scary movies all
by herself Sari and Jess temporarily became mad at each other. Sari particularly likes a
boy named David Cole, who was at the Halloween party. The two were talking.
Meanwhile, the two most popular students in the whole grade were dating-Thea Melendez
and (guess who) David Cole. Thea is not a party girl.
There is another popular person in the grade and her name is (Erica Trager) Prada Mafia.
She is having a party (she has one every year and her parents bedroom
door is locked because of past experiences). Everyone is invited to her party. At the party
there will be alcohol and other drugs like that.
Well at this party that Erica is having, Sari wants to go but she wants to bring Jess with her.
Neither Jess nor Sari gets along with Erica at all. They are like the
worst enemies. Jess does not want to go to the party. At last Sari talked Jess into coming with her.
At the party after asking Jess not to leave Sari ventures off into the other room. Meanwhile J
ess is just hanging around, she runs into Danny. He is drunk and throwing
up. So finally she offers to take Danny home and he says "sure". Jess goes into the other
room and tells Sari that she is bringing Danny home, but Sari does not
really care because she is drinking.Sari and Jess started talking more often. Soon Sari tells Jess
what is going on with her and David. Sari and David meet at David's
house every Thursday after school, but David and Thea are still the perfect couple. They still sit
together at lunch. David still pretends to bite Thea's ear, and it still gets
her mad, but then Thea forgives him.
Well to find out what happens next, read this cool book! (Krista M.)

This book's author is Margaret Peterson Haddix. The book Among the

The Believers
(Rebecca C. Jones)
The Book Believers has to do with religion. A young girl is adopted
by a news TV caster who has no time for this poor child she has
adopted. So the young girl stays home with her aunt while her mom is
out of town. Now this girls aunt is very strict and wants best for
the girl. One day while skipping school the girl meets a boy and is
kind of interested in him. So she starts visiting him and his family
all the time. What she doesn't know is that his family only believes
in God and doesn't believe in doctors, nurses and dentists. So the
girl starts believing in what they believe and she gets in a lot of
trouble. Her adopted mother finally invites her to come and stay with
her for a couple of days and she goes. But when she gets back one of
the guys that she met his little sister gets sick and his parents
don't believe in doctors so they just keep her in the house while she
is sick. So the girl comes to rescue her and bring her to their house
and takes her to the hospital and the younger girls parents try to
stop her because they don't believe in doctors but the older girl
wins and takes her so she can get better and she does. Mother quits
her job and gets another one so she can spend time with her adoptive
daughter.
Ghost Boy
(Iain Lawrence)
Ghost Boy is about a young boy who gets picked on because of the
color of his skin. But the color of his skin is like any other
child's skin. The color of his skin is albino. Because of this
young boy's disability he has to have a horrible life and many
consequences have been faced. But he is tough enough to suck it up
and live with it.
Number the Stars
(Lois Lowry)
If you like historical fiction, this is the book for you. It is a
thrilling book and is filled with hope, fear, hate and love. The
main character is trying to protect her Jewish friend from soldiers.
It is only hope that the Jewish family will survive.
Cut
(Patricia McCormick)
The book I read is called Cut, it was written by Patricia McCormick.
This book is about a girl that is in a mental institution called Sea
Pines. She is there because she tries to kill herself by slitting her
wrists. They put her in therapy everyday but she doesn't talk. She
won't talk to anybody but she can't stay silent because two reasons
one they'll kick her out and she doesn't want to go home, and also
she has a secret to tell…
145th Street short stories
(Walter Dean Myers)
This book is about these people that live in Harlem it's a bunch of
short stories telling different stories about peoples lives that live
there. In each story it also tells a lesson like one Christmas Story
which is about Mother Fletcher and why everyone likes her and the
lessons she teaches. And The Fighter which teaches about fighting and
keeping your life straight, and what comes first in life.
Island of the blue dolphins
(Scott O'Dell)
The book Island of the Blue Dolphins is written by: Scott O'Dell. The
island is called Island of thee blue dolphins becayse the island is
shaped like a big fish and there are blue dolphins that swim at
around and is stranded on an island. It is about a girl who is 12,
she has to survive with her little brother who is then killed by
wild wolves. Ramo was only about half her age, She was left behind
when the other Indians sailed to the east. She kept herself alive by
building shelter, making weapons, finding food, and fighting all of
her enemies, which were the wild dogs. She waited season after season
to see if the ship would come none of the other Indians ever came
back to the island.
Guts
(Gary Paulsen)
This book is a biography about Gary Paulsen, it tells how he wrote
his books and, the experiences he had when he was little. I think
it's a very good book because it tells about a person with a stranger
life than normal.
Hatchet
(Gary Paulsen)
I choose to do the book hatchet by Gary Paulsen because I like books
when kids our people get lost or stranded some where away from
civilization. This book is about a boy that goes up to see his dad
every year up in Canada. His mom got him a little airplane with only
enough room for two people to sit. The boys name was Brian. Brian
and the pilot became friends. They were talking for hours until he
felt a pain in his chest. Then the pilot started to sigh in pain then
he started to jerk around then Brian thought he remembered watching a
show on heart attacks. They were explaining what happens when you
have a heart attack and the same thing happened to the pilot. Then
Brian felt his pulse. He remembered how to drive the plane so he drove
until he ran out of gas. He was going down and he landed in a lake.
He was in shock and he had a concussion. He swam to shore and he
passed out on the shore. You will have to read the rest of the book
to find out what happens. If you like adventure books this is a good
one to read. I rate this nine out of ten stars because it was a little
confusing.
A Child called "It"
(Dave Pelzer)
This book is about a boy who lived with his mom, and his mom would
make him do chores all the time and wouldn't feed him enough and beat
him till he couldn't breath. He lived like this for awhile when he
was a kid. The nurse at his school thought something was going on so
that's when they started noticing that he was getting hurt… It's his
story about what happened when he was little and the effect it had on
him now that he's all grown up.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
(J.K. Rowling)
"Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" is another great book by J.K. Rowling.
It's Harry's fifth year at Hogwart's and things are getting weirder. Voldemort's threat
is growing and Harry needs a lot of help from his friends when he loses someone
very important to him. Harry, Ron, and Hermione also face yet another Defense
against the Dark Arts teacher, Ron as the (bad) keeper of the Gryffindor Quidditch
team, and the terror of their O.W.L. exams. But even though it's a rough year,
Hogwarts will always be Harry's home. (Emily P.)
Holes
(Louis Sachar)
Holes was the winner of the 1998 Newberry Award. Stanley Yelnats is
sent to a hellish correctional camp in the Texas desert for a crime
he didn't commit. There the boys must dig a deep hole every day. At
the prison Stanley finds his real best friend, a treasure, and a new
sense of himself. Sachar says he got the idea for Holes when he moved
to Austin, Texas. It was so hot in Texas that he decided to write a
story about suffering in the heat. It took Sachar eighteen months to
write Holes, the same amount of time that Stanley was sentenced to
prison.
Hamlet (William Shakespeare)
I starting reading Hamlet due to boredom, but about 20 pages into the
book it got interesting. Hamlet is a story filled with corruption,
jealousy, love, murder, and death.
This is not an easy book to read but, if you enjoy reading you'll
understand the old English. Be ready for a surprise, because Hamlet
is not a happy ending. (Lauren L.)
The House Next Door
(Anne Rivers Siddons)
Emma bets her twin brother, Charlie, that she can spend the entire
night alone at the spooky, abandoned house next door. The place is
seriously creepy, but she is determined to overcome her fears and
prove her brother wrong. Until she finds herself reliving a horrific

strangely familiar young man. When Charlie finds her he's sure it was
all just a dream. Yet Emma has persistent paranormal experiences
involving the house and the young man from the past. As her dreams
intensify Emma becomes convinced that they are real and that she has
a dreadful part to playing the supernatural reenactment of a tragic
love.
The Reptile Room
(Lemony Snicket)
I liked this book because it was funny and a mystery book. I give
this book an A+. It was written by Lemony Snicket. Its in a series of
books. Its in the middle school level of reading. This book is great.
People don't know a lot about it but it's a great book.
Kissing Doorknobs
(Terry Spencer)

has to have everything work out the same or else the day won't be
good,
this book shows how it is for her and its very hard to read the book
and how everyone tries to help her.
Maniac Magee (Jerry Spinelli)
The book I read is called Maniac Magee. It's a very interesting book to read. It's about this 12 year old kid named Jeffery Lionel
Magee who finds himself in Two Mills, Pennsylvania. He goes to all these places in this area. One time he finds a girl walking
and asks her a question and then he goes to all these weird places where he hasn't been before. READ THIS BOOK IF YOU
WANT TO FIND OUT PLACES HE WENT AND THE FUNNY THINGS HE HAS DONE . I RECOMMEND YOU TO READ
MANIAC MAGEE.
(Priyal G.)
Who put that hair in my toothbrush
(Jerry Spinelli)
It's the battle of the siblings! Who will come out on top, Megan or
Greg? This novel will keep you laughing and teach you about revenge
and forgiveness. It was written by Jerry Spinelli who is a great
author and so any book he writes you'll probably love!
How to be really funny
(Mark Stolzenberg)
This handy how to book is filled with tips and tools every aspiring
comedian can use. It might just make you the hit of the party!
War and Peace
(Leo Tolstoy)
The name of my all time favorite book is War and Peace. I found this
book very exciting, emotional, and grasping. It is about a man who is
separated from his beloved family during the French Revolution. It is
a fabulous book that jumps into action immediately and that you will
not be able to put it down until you read the last page. War and Peace
is a remarkably crafted book with many twists and turns and with
senses of action, romance, drama, and heroism. I would highly
recommend this book to anyone who has a true appreciation of sheer
excellence, as I for this book.
