About the Windsor Locks Public Library

​

The Windsor Locks Public Library has been serving the community for more than 100 years. Founded in 1907, the library began as a small collection of books made available to residents through the efforts of dedicated volunteers and the support of the Town of Windsor Locks. Since then, it has grown into a vibrant community resource that welcomes thousands of visitors each year.

The Library is a unique partnership between the Windsor Locks Public Library, Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, and the Town of Windsor Locks. The nonprofit owns the historic Haskell Homestead property at 28 Main Street, which was generously donated by Thomasine Haskell Conant in 1940 to be used "always and solely as a Public Library for the benefit of the people of Windsor Locks." The current library building, opened in 1990, was constructed by the Town and stands on this historic property. Together, the Town and the Library have worked side by side for more than a century to provide free library services to the community.

Today, the Windsor Locks Public Library is much more than a place to borrow books. We offer books, eBooks, audiobooks, public computers, Wi-Fi, makerspace equipment, educational and cultural programs, technology assistance, a Library of Things, and resources for lifelong learning. From Storytimes for young children to programs for teens, adults, and seniors, we are committed to serving residents of all ages.

Our library continues to thrive because of the support of our community, our dedicated Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, donors, and the Town of Windsor Locks. Together, we remain committed to our mission:
